National Rock Act Faber Drive Coming To Cornwall
Candy Pollard
Palm Entertainment is pleased to announce Faber Drive is coming to General Vanier Intermediate School Auditorium on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 for an all ages show which will be open to the public. Faber Drive has been one of Much Music's most aired Canadian bands over the past couple of years, gaining the four-piece band from Mission, British Columbia, nationwide exposure. In fact, the group has recently been nominated for a Juno Award as Best New Group of the year. The 2008 Juno Awards are scheduled to take place April 6th in Calgary, Alberta.
When Faber Drive decided to submit a song to Vancouver radio station 99.3 The Fox's battle of the bands a few years ago, their goal wasn't to win the contest. They weren't even sure they were good enough to enter. In fact, when front man Faber brought his band's CD to the station on the deadline day for submissions, he came close to giving up and going back home. "I actually got back in my car and pulled away," he says. "Then I decided to go back, so I turned the car around and I got up in the office just before it closed and handed in the disc."
It was the best move of the band's career. The station chose the song, "Sex and Love," as one of the 20 best submissions out of more than 500, then played the song on the radio in a head to head contest against the other qualifiers. Soon, Faber Drive (then called simply Faber) were in the top ten, and, after live competitions at local clubs, they won first place and were voted the best band in Vancouver.
Since that time they have signed a major record deal with record label 604, co-owned by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback to release "Seven Second Surgery" their debut album. Kroeger had previously collaborated with the band with co-producers Joey Moi (Nickelback, Default, Theory of a Deadman, Closure) and ex DDT/Closure front man Brian Howes (Hedley, Hinder), who produced Faber Drive's full-length debut. Faber Drive's three singles "Second hance", "Tongue Tied" and "When I'm With You" have brought them to the forefront of the Canadian music scene scoring one number one video on Much Music and Musique Plus with "Tongue Tied". They have shared the stage with notable acts such as Thornley, Hurst, The Trews, Matt Good, Holly McNarland, and have opened for Nickelback.
"We are delighted to bring them to this area," claims Ed Lauzon, Director of Palm Entertainment, "and would like to thank General Vanier Intermediate School for use of their ideal venue."
Opening acts for Faber Drive are scheduled to be "Hello Operator" and “Awake And Dreaming”.
