The Candy Report
Cornwall Motor Speedway - World of Outlaws
Candy Pollard
If you want to see the show of the year in 2008 you will have to be at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday, June 22nd. As announced earlier, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will be in town along with the Empire Super Sprints and the 358 modified was also added to the mix. With this new addition, it will be the first time ever those three premier divisions will be on the same racing card on the same night in Canada.
The WOO Late Models will make their first appearance at the ¼ mile high banked bullring. You can expect to see the best of the crop on that night as the 2007 champion Steve Francis will lead the pack in which includes Chub Frank, Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, Rick Eckert, Josh Richards and Darrell Lanigan. Modified superstars Tim Fuller and Billy Decker should also be in the pits along with other regular WOO competitors. You might see some other DIRTcar stars to join the field as Danny Johnson might have a late model ride for 2008 and also some local frontrunners such as Pat O’Brien will probably in competition on that night. Another good driver will join the field as Peter Mantha will be in his own Rocket late model for that evening. A cool $10,000 amount will be given to the winner of this race.
The Empire Super Sprint will also share the spotlight on that very special evening. The winged warriors will make the first of two visits at Cornwall in 2008. All the stars such as last year’s champ Steve Poirier, Jeff VanDusen, Lance Yonge, Alain Bergeron, Jeff Cook, Mikael Parent, Jessica Zemken and other drivers of this great series will be on hand. This group always give one of the best shows of the year at the speedway.
Along with the WOO Late Model and the ESS, the 358 modified will also be a class to watch on that stunning Sunday. Cornwall always gets a stellar field each night and we can anticipate seeing new faces in that category because of the visit of one of the top series of DIRTcar. All the great local drivers present will want to give the Cornwall fans a show to remember.
Some extra grandstands will be added for this event along with more parking area and an extra shuttle service that will make everything more convenient for the people who need it. We want to make this night special for everyone who will be in attendance.
Be sure to put an X or circle your calendar on June 22nd as it will be the show of the year in Canada. The World of Outlaws Late Models, the Empire Super Sprints and the 358 modified on the same night, it will be a racing spectacular to be remembered for years to come.
