Instead of buying Dad a necktie or golf balls for Father’s Day, why not try something different this year? A long standing tradition of Kinsmen Cornwall Lift-Off is the opportunity for the public to take a hot air balloon flight from Lamoureux Park. “The excitement at the launch field each year is contagious,” says Director of Administration Jocelyn Savard, “It’s great to offer such a unique experience to the public.”

Gift certificates are available and a great gift idea to celebrate Father’s Day, a graduation or just to commemorate the summer! “Lift-Off is such a successful festival because it brings something new and exciting to the community,” added Festival Chair Chris Savard, “What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to share such an exhilarating experience together?”

There are currently six flight windows scheduled for the 2008 festival, beginning Thursday, July 10 in the evening until Sunday, July 13 in the morning. A typical flight over the city would fly between 500’ - 1500’; altitudes may become higher depending on wind currents. The cost of a ride is $175. Cornwall Lift-Off was founded in 1994 and has since hosted back-to-back Canadian National Hot Air Balloon Championships in 1996 and 1997. The success of the festival has grown considerably from modest beginnings in 1994. This year, an exciting assortment of live entertainment and fireworks will compliment the arrival of 25 hot air balloon teams. This year’s festival will be held July 10-13th in Cornwall’s scenic Lamoureux Park and it is anticipated that the 2008 festival will attract between 50,000 to 55,000 spectators from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York State.
