A-Channel To Broadcast From Lift Off
Candy Pollard

Ottawa’s A-Channel will be broadcasting its top-ranked Morning Show from Cornwall on Friday July 11th from 6:00 am to 9:00 am.

The popular Morning Show is anchored by Kurt Stoodley and Karen Soloman and features an entertaining mix of news, weather and sports. The three-hour long show has a special focus on community events, and is welcomed into more Ottawa region homes than any other morning TV show. A-Channel is broadcast throughout the Ottawa region, and is carried in the Cornwall area on cable channel 6 by TVCogeco.

“We are excited to be taking our show to Cornwall”, said Peter Angione, News Director for the A-Channel. “It's shaping up to be a great show.” The entire show will be broadcast live from Cornwall’s Lamoureux Park on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The show coincides with the second day of Lift-Off, Cornwall’s hot-air balloon/music festival. During the 3 hour broadcast, several people from the local area, including Mayor Bob Kilger, will be interviewed. “This is an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Cornwall to the Ottawa area, including the thousands of visitors currently staying in the Nation’s Capital”, said Bob Peters, Senior Development Officer with Cornwall Economic Development.

In order to promote this exciting event, the Kinsmen Club of Cornwall will be sponsoring a free pancake breakfast at the launch field during the A-Channel broadcast. The Park will already be busy with people, as 25 hot-air balloons will be launched that morning. A longstanding tradition of Lift-Off is the opportunity for the public to take a hot air balloon flight. In addition to traditional Lift-Off activities, the park will also be hosting 159 cyclists who are participating in the Great Waterfront Trail Bike Tour.

“We are very excited to welcome the A-Channel team to Lift-Off”, said Chris Savard, Festival Chair. “We hope that Cornwall residents come down to the park early to watch this professional TV show in action. Who knows? Perhaps they’ll have a chance to be on TV themselves!”

Cornwall Lift-Off was founded in 1994 and has since hosted back-to-back Canadian National Hot Air Balloon Championships in 1996 and 1997. The success of the festival has grown considerably from modest beginnings in 1994. This year, an exciting assortment of live entertainment and fireworks will compliment the arrival of 25 hot air balloon teams, including performances by Glass Tiger, Dennis DeYoung and Theory of a Deadman. It is anticipated that the festival will attract between 50,000 to 55,000 spectators from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York State.
