Family Music & Arts Festival
Candy Pollard

Looking for some sing-along, dance-along and laugh-along fun to wrap up your family’s summer season? Upper Canada Village is hosting its third annual “Family Music and Arts Festival” at the Family Activity Centre (a favourite Village attraction throughout the summer months). The Festival will take place on Labour Day Weekend, August 30, 31 and September 1, and features a colourful line-up of professional entertainers that will be fun for all!

Musical and dramatic entertainment will be ongoing at Upper Canada Village each day during the Labour Day Weekend, beginning with the Village’s own Travelling Tiltons at 11:30 a.m. Special musical guests at this year’s Festival include the Scots-Quebec group Écosse, Haines and Leighton on fiddle and accordion, guitarist Neil Emberg, and Glengarry’s own fiddle champ, Ashley MacLeod. For some theatrical entertainment, the Rag and Bone Puppet Theatre will perform “The Flying Canoe” (based on the French-Canadian tale “La Chasse Galerie”) and the David Smith Marionettes will perform “Jack and the Beanstalk.”

All afternoon performances are indoors at the Family Activity Centre and will take place rain or shine. Show times are:
Saturday, August 30 12:30 pm and 2:30 Écosse
1:30 pm and 3:30 pm David Smith Marionettes
Sunday, August 31 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm Neil Emberg & Ashley MacLeod
1:30 pm and 3:30 pm David Smith Marionettes
Monday, September 1 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm Haines & Leighton
1:30 pm and 3:30 pm Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre

Admission to the Family Music and Arts Festival is included in the regular admission price to visit Upper Canada Village.

The “Family Music and Arts Festival” wraps up the summer, just in time for a variety of upcoming fall events at the Village including “Fall Gardens” day on September 13th, the “Fall Fair” on September 20th and 21st, the “Quilt Show” on September 27th and 28th, and “Fall at the Farm”, taking place from September 29th to October 5th, when the Village’s daily operations close for the season. Special programming will be offered at the Village on Thanksgiving Weekend from October 10th to October 13th, and during its Flavours of Autumn Weekends on October 17th and 18th and 24th and 25th.
