The Candy Report
On Now At The Playhouse
Candy Pollard
How does a young woman who is nine months pregnant tell her father that she intends to give birth with the services of a midwife in the drafty old farmhouse she calls home? Especially when her father is a baby doctor? Easy. Invite her parents to dinner weeks before the blessed event, show them that things are under control and break the news to them gently. Only problem is the baby and the midwife arrive before the turkey and this family gathering blows apart with the kind of tension and hilarity that only strained family relationships can create.
Morrisburg’s Upper Canada Playhouse closes out the summer portion of its season with Having Hope at Home, an hilarious and heart-warming story about a family under pressure by David S. Craig. The show runs September 11 through October 5. Critics compare it to ‘a good sit-com that allows you to sit back and enjoy perfectly constructed comedy’. It’s also been called ‘a delight-filled domestic comedy that shouldn’t be missed’. Directed by Artistic Director Donnie Bowes and deisgned by John Thompson, it features Kathleen Egan Veinotte, Doug Tangney, Susan Greenfield, Garfield Andrews, Parris Greaves and Melodee Finlay.
Having Hope at Home runs September 11-October with evening shows Tuesday through Saturday at 8PM and matinees Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 2PM. Call: 613-543-3713
