Local Accommodation Partners Support Event Organizers
Candy Pollard
In January of 2008 four of our local hotel properties (the Best Western Parkway Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn and Ramada Inn) formed a Destination Marketing Partnership with Cornwall & Seaway Valley Tourism. The purpose of the partnership is to enhance the marketing efforts of the tourism office through various initiatives, and ultimately develop a more vibrant tourism industry for Cornwall and the Seaway Valley.
One of the sub sectors of tourism is the sport tournament, meeting and convention market. A market that is extremely valuable to our community. As part of the Destination Marketing Partnership, these 4 accommodation properties have developed a program to support teams and organizations who currently host events, or who are contemplating hosting an event in the future.
This support will be valuable to organizers and will ultimately assist in enhancing our current events and entice local groups and organizations to consider bringing regional, provincial and even national events into our community.
Recently, a cocktail party was held to announce this great program and cheques were presented to:
- Holy Trinity Catholic High School who will be hosting both the girls and the boys OFSSA Basketball Tournament in 2009
- Ecole Secondaire La Citadelle who will be hosting the Franco Ontarien Girls Hockey Tournament in 2009
- Cornwall Minor Girls Hockey who recently hosted an outstanding tournament that attracted more than 20 teams from outside our region
- The Parks of The St. Lawrence, in support of the marketing efforts for the "Alight At Night" Festival currently running.
A vibrant tourism industry benefits many sectors of our business community, as visitors frequent our restaurants, gas stations, retail outlets and attractions. An increase in business means more jobs and better quality of life for everyone.
