Doors Open Weekend - Sept 11th & 12th
The annual Doors Open weekend is quickly approaching on September 11th and 12th. Once again, historical locations will be opening their doors to the general public, for free, providing a glimpse at the history of the Cornwall and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry region.
Many of the participating sites are not normally open to the general public such as the Martintown Mill, the Masonic Lodge in Lancaster, Aultsville Train Station in Morrisburg and the United Counties Courthouse in Cornwall. Other locations are normally open but are waiving their normal admission fee - Historic Cornwall Jail and the Nor'Westers & Loyalist Museum in Williamstown.
And then there are the special displays and/or events. St. Raphaels Ruins will have Celtic Music on Sat and a special plaquing event on Sun, the Glengarry Pioneer Museum in Dunvegan has an author on hand to talk about his book as well as other activities for the youngsters, Nor'Westers & Loyalist Museum in Williamstown is unveiling a new display on the "old schoolhouse", Sir John Johnson Manor House in Williamstown will have special exhibits featuring the lives of Loyalist children, information, games, and clothing, and the brand new St. Lawrence Power Project Visitor Centre in Cornwall, for the first time, will be open both Sat and Sun.
There are a total of 28 different sites and tours that you can choose from. There are different hours of operation for many of the sites so I recommend checking them out on the website, making your choices and then planning out your route!
