Cornwall and the Counties Take Cycling by Storm
Cornwall, ON – February 19, 2013 – Cornwall and the Counties can hopefully expect an influx in the amount of cycling tourists the region accommodates this summer after successful trips to the Montreal Bike Show / Salon du Vélo February 15-17, and the Toronto Cycle Show March 1-3.
Our team of Executive Director, Linda, and Executive Assistant, Shawna, were joined at the Montreal event by Cornwall and the Counties Tourism Vice President, Anne Leduc, and our amazing cycle trails resource, Keith Smith and his wife Carole to help promote our newly established cycling trails. Our Marketing Manager, Angela Preston and Communications Manager Chris Hemond attended the massive Toronto Cycle Show at the city’s Exhibition Place. The groups were equipped with our our brand new, fresh from the printers, cycle maps that outline many newly created routes that range from 20 km to over 200 km throughout the region, as well as our 2013 Visitor Guide. Interested visitors were welcomed with friendly conversation and all the details they needed to help them make the decision to make the exciting trip to Cornwall and the Counties.
The conversations between our team and the visitors were great and gave the opportunity to really sell our region as a great cycling destination, but we also needed to acquire some information from people without breaking the natural, human interaction. Enter the iPad survey. We developed a survey for each show for our iPad to stand at a kiosk at our booth that people could fill for a chance to win a top of the line Garmin GPS for cyclists, all while providing some valuable information that will help us further our marketing efforts, and cycling tourism development. Winners were randomly selected from each set of entrants from the two exhibitions, and Martin Boissonneault of Victoriaville, Quebec and Matthew Merritt of Toronto, Ontario have been selected as the winners of the Garmin Edge 800 Touchscreen GPS. Congratulations, and thank you to all who participated.
All in all, the exhibitions were a great success and, judging by the interest shown and Cycle Maps/Visitor Guides handed out, will encourage more tourism to the area, and more awareness of the great cycling we have to offer.
Our cycle maps are available from our office at 11 Water St. West, and you can check out all of the routes online, and download them to your GPS device here
The Montreal Bike Show and Toronto Cycle Show were two of four trade shows that we will be sending teams to in order to promote the awesome activities that can be found here in Cornwall and the Counties. We will also be attending the Ottawa Travel Show, and the Ottawa Adventure Travel Show in the coming weeks.
Christmas spirit is alive and well in Cornwall and the Counties as Upper Canada Village's Alight at Night and The Alexandria Festival of Lights prepare to light up the region with their spectacular displays of Christmas lights.
One of the most fascinating displays of culture occurs at the Akwesasne International Powwow. On September 6 - 7, celebrate the traditions of the First Nation people.
