Cornwall hosts Snowflake Invitational
Over 400 swimmers from across eastern Ontario and western Quebec donned their swim caps and goggles for a major swim meet in Cornwall this past weekend.
The Cornwall Aquatic Centre played host to the annual Cornwall Sea Lions Snowflake Invitational, a three-day competition featuring athletes ranging in age from 6 to 18.
Attendance was up for this year’s event, with over 400 swimmers taking part in 20 different events over the course of the tournament. That included swimmers from clubs in other parts of Ontario and Quebec, including Gatineau, Pointe Claire and Ottawa, to name a few.
“There was more interest in the event and we grew significantly,” said Mellissa Morgan-Dobson, one of the event officials. “The Aquatic Centre is a perfect venue for this type of competition and it’s a great way to welcome visiting athletes and families to our community.”
The Sea Lions have been a staple in Cornwall’s sporting community for many decades and are steeped in a tradition of developing swimmers who have gone on to represent our community at National and International Competitions. In recent years swimmers have received scholarships to both US Colleges and Canadian universities.
