Cornwall Tourism open house

Tourism stakeholders and interested residents are invited to attend an open house for the new Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) and the proposed Tourism Development Fund.

The open house will be held on Thursday, October 4th from 2 pm – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm in the Automotive Room at the Benson Centre (700 Seventh Street West).

The event is open to all and everyone is welcome to drop-in to learn more and share their thoughts.

Earlier this year, the City of Cornwall implemented a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) to support tourism development in Cornwall.

Proceeds from the MAT must be used to further develop the tourism industry in Cornwall. Part of the plan calls for the creation of a Tourism Development Fund, to be administered by an independent not-for-profit Municipal Service Corporation. This fund would support Cornwall’s tourism sector by providing financial assistance to eligible projects or initiatives in areas such as:

– Hosting major sporting events and conferences
– Sponsorship of tourism-focused festivals and events
– Development of new and/or existing tourism assets and attractions
– Other projects which enhance Cornwall’s position as a visitor destination

Cornwall Tourism is seeking input on this process and on any other ideas on how to develop our tourism sector.
