Upper Canada Village has been honoured by the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall with an award of Excellence, and has been recognized for Dementia Friendly Community Leadership.

Josée Roy-Pilon, Communications and Events with the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall and District visited Upper Canada Village team to make the presentation.

“We are truly honoured to receive recognition for our work with the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall and District. The staff at Upper Canada Village are inspired every day by the positive feedback we receive from our many visitors. This initiative is part of how we are making Upper Canada Village more accessible to visitors,” said Tracey Ogilby, Manager, Upper Canada Village.

Upper Canada Village started working with the Alzheimer Society in 2016 in a pilot project to become dementia friendly. To date, over 100 staff at Upper Canada Village have received training.

Recently, the SLPC received recognition from the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) at the 2018 Ontario Tourism Summit with an award for Accessible Tourism.

About Upper Canada Village

Upper Canada Village is located at 13740 County Road 2, Morrisburg, approximately 30 minutes west of Cornwall, 90 minutes west of Montreal and northwest of Watertown, New York and 75 minutes southeast of Ottawa and east of Kingston, Exit 758 off Highway 401.

Founded in 1961, Upper Canada Village is one of the largest living-history sites in Canada. Here, we endeavor to depict life in a rural English Canadian setting during the year 1866. Featured are over forty historical buildings, many moved here prior to flooding of the “Lost Villages” during the St. Lawrence Seaway development project. These include homes, functioning mills and trades workshops.
