Garlic Goodness at the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival

Cornwall, ON – August 3, 2016On Sunday, August 28th from 10am – 6pm, the 2nd annual Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival (EOGF) hits Lamoureux Park, and 2016 promises to build on the success of last year. The EOGF was created in order to promote local food producers and the benefits of buying locally, and provide support to the local community through vendor space, awareness, and raising funds to support community initiatives of the Kozroots Community Empowerment Projects.

In the first year of the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival, the festival hosted over 70 vendors and exhibitors from across Eastern Ontario, and organizers expect to significantly increase those numbers in 2016. With over 5,000 Garlic Bulbs on Boards scaled for home headerattendees and $40,000 worth of profits that went towards local communities last year, the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival is one event that you do not want to miss.

Though the name of the festival is specifically geared towards garlic, the free event includes local food producers of all kinds. The overall goal of the festival is to showcase Eastern Ontario growers and to encourage visitors to seek out the local food resources that are available to them in Cornwall and the Counties. Experience the freshness of locally sourced foods to experience the difference.

While local food is the centrepiece to this great event, the EOGF will also feature a variety of additional attractions for all ages. Face-painting, art displays, live entertainment and a series of unique exhibitions and activities are all on-tap at this year’s edition. Once you’re done munching on some delicious local food, you can re-hydrate at the Beer and Wine Garden that will be open throughout the day!

Community is an essential element to Kozroots in their vision of their organization. They aim to stimulate conversation about people helping people and, in regards to the Eastern Ontario Garlic Festival, showcasing the benefits of purchasing local food products.

These benefits include:

  • Buying locally helps promote the local economy and maintains a thriving community.
  • Food that is grown locally does not require importation, thus using up less fossil fuel.
  • Local farms are oftentimes smaller and therefore use more sustainable efforts to produce local resources.
  • Buying locally preserves farm land within the community. It helps secure the sustainability that generations of families have worked tirelessly to preserve.
